Professional Biography:

Carsten Schmidtke is a native of Kiel, Germany, where he attended Christian-Albrechts-Universität to study English, French, and Danish language and literature. After graduation, he taught English and French at a local high school before moving to the United States.

Before joining the University of Arkansas in 2008, Schmidtke taught composition, technical writing, small group communication, speech, and American Indian studies at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. While at OSU-Okmulgee, he also worked successfully to establish partnerships with universities abroad and bring foreign exchange students to campus.

Schmidtke was a board member of the Oklahoma Association for Developmental Education (OKADE), helped organize the 2002 Oklahoma Global Education Consortium Conference, and served as president of the OSU chapter of Omicron Tau Theta (OTT), an international honor society for students in vocational education. In addition, he is a certified leadership instructor through the PTK organization.
