Professional Biography:

David Deggs joined the University of Arkansas following a career in higher education and state government in Louisiana. Prior to joining the University of Arkansas, David was program director for Louisiana Campus Compact, a statewide organization of college and university presidents and chancellors dedicated to promoting service-learning and civic engagement in higher education. As program director, he secured approximately $1.3 million in grant funds and managed state level programs for two- and four-year colleges and universities.

While employed at the Louisiana Department of Education, he administered Louisiana’s Adult Education, GED Testing, Strategies to Empower People, and Jobs for America’s Graduates programs, which consisted of 100 programs statewide. As section leader for Adult and Family Literacy Services, he exercised budgetary oversight of $17 million in state and federal funds (Workforce Investment Act of 1998, Title II), including awarding projects for state activities budget and managing the process to award subgrants to local programs. During that time, David led the development of the Louisiana Adult Education Content Standards and authored Adult Education Data Quality and Procedures, which is the data collection policy for local programs.

David has higher education experience as a campus Greek advisor, academic advisor, assistant grant coordinator and instructor for first-year experience courses. While employed with University College at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, he developed and taught two new courses: Interdisciplinary Studies 2000: Service Learningand Interdisciplinary Studies 3000: Foundations of Professional Studies. 

Personal Information:

David enjoys reading, traveling and playing golf. He’s a football fan, especially for SEC teams. David is a member of the Leadership and Education Committee for Theta Chi Fraternity, which is responsible for planning national undergraduate leadership events.
