Office for Studies on Aging Part of KUAF Series on Mental Health of Older People

Faculty and staff members of the College of Education and Health Professions provided expertise for a series of in-depth reports on mental health and older people being aired by University of Arkansas public radio station KUAF 91.3 FM.

Ro DiBrezzo, professor of kinesiology, and Barbara Shadden, professor of communication disorders, co-directors of the Office for Studies on Aging, along with Melissa Powers, an exercise science doctoral student who coordinates the office’s programming, were interviewed by Jacqueline Froelich, KUAF news producer and NPR correspondent, for several segments of the series.

KUAF received a $15,000 grant from the American Psychiatric Foundation to produce the series, which is being aired on Ozarks at Large and on the nationally syndicated public radio program, The Health Show, heard on nearly 160 public radio and ABC radio stations in the United States and in 138 countries and on U.S. Armed Forces Radio.

The March 2 installment featured Powers’ work leading a group of older women in exercise. DiBrezzo explains that people can improve their fitness at any age. The interview can be listened to at http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/kuaf/local-kuaf-572369.mp3.
