Professional Biography:

Dr. Daniel J. Pugh Sr. (Danny) was born in St. Louis, Mo., and raised in Memphis, Tenn. He is a first generation college student, being the first in his family to receive a degree from a 4 year institution. He received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in communications and a Master of Science (M.S.) in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. His Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) was awarded from the University of Georgia as a member of the Institute of Higher Education. His area of scholarship and research has focused on leadership in higher education, principally on student leadership development, and legal issues in higher education. His professional background includes  housing work at the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech, judicial work at the University of Georgia, Eastern Washington University where he served as Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Student Life, and now here at the University of Arkansas as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. He is also an adjunct graduate faculty member for the Higher Education Leadership Program in the College of Education and Health Professionals where he teaches higher education law.

Dr. Pugh holds membership in the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS), the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS), the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA), the International Leadership Association (ILA), the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs (NCLP), the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the Association of College Personnel Administrators (ACPA), and the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U).

Dr. Pugh has given numerous presentations, including "Leadership, Leadership and Diversity: Why must we choose?" "The Role of the Dean, Is Classroom Behavior Important?" "Dealing with Disruptive Students in the Classroom," "The Mentor/Mentee Relationship," and many more.

Dr. Pugh has received numerous awards, including the EWU Student Life Excellence Award for Mentorship and the EWU Student Life Excellence Award for Advising.  He is also a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary and the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.

 

Personal Information:

He is blessed to have married his college sweetheart and their continued courtship has born two sons, Daniel and David, both of whom are the light of their lives. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and riding his Harley-Davidson.
