Miller Elected Division Director of Educational Research Association
Michael T. Miller, professor of higher education at the University of Arkansas, has been elected director of the division of higher education in the Eastern Educational Research Association.
Miller joined the faculty in the College of Education and Health Professions in 2003 as associate professor and was elected coordinator of the higher education program in fall 2004.
He was elected to the post of divisional director following the Eastern Educational Research Association’s annual spring meeting. He replaces professor Glenn M. Nelson of the University of Pittsburgh and will be responsible for coordinating all of the division’s activities, including presentations for the 2007 annual meeting in Clearwater Beach, Fla.
Miller also serves as the senior associate editor of the association’s journal, the Journal of Research in Education. The association’s division of higher education includes a special interest group that focuses on issues in higher education. The group’s purpose is to provide a forum for examining, presenting and discussing research that addresses current quality teaching issues in institutions of higher education, especially the issue of pursuit of research versus provision of quality teaching and learning. The mission of the association, which has 16 divisions, is to encourage the growth and improvement of educational research.
The author or co-author of nearly 300 publications, including three books and six edited books, Miller’s primary line of inquiry has been related to how faculty are involved in the institutional governance process and how this involvement is received by administrators.
Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in higher education from Southern Illinois University and a doctorate in community and human resources (continuing and postsecondary education) from the University of Nebraska.
