Professional Biography:

Rebecca Newgent joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas in 2001 as an Assistant Professor in the Counselor Education Program. Dr. Newgent has counseled clients in a variety of settings including an outpatient community mental health center for adults with severe emotional disabilities, two university counseling and development centers, two parochial family service agencies, and in private practice. Additionally, Dr. Newgent worked as an Emergency Clinician for a County Psychiatric Emergency Services and volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Services Unit. At the University of Akron, Dr. Newgent taught a variety of courses in the Counselor Education program and was Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership where she taught Techniques of Research. Professional organizations include the American Counseling Association, American Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, American Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education, Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and Chi Sigma Iota.

Academic Interests and Accomplishments:

Dr. Newgent has an extensive teaching, research, and service record. She has taught 19 different courses in the Counselor Education Program and has assisted in the Educational Statistics and Research Methods and Educational Technology programs. She has in excess of 35 publications and 80 presentations. Dr. Newgent has been the principal/co-principal investigator or team member on research endeavors that have been successful in developing grant proposals that have been awarded external funds in excess of $555,000. In addition to disseminating her research findings through publication, she has facilitated the utilization of findings by conducting workshops and seminars at the international, national, regional, state, and local levels. Dr. Newgent also coordinates the Ph.D. program, is the liaison for the program's national accreditors, CACREP, and chairs the CNED Advisory Board.

Personal Information:

Dr. Newgent is an enthusiastic Razorback fan, but her heart will always be with the Cleveland Browns. She loves musicals and operas.
