Two types of financial assistance available:
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available for students in the doctoral program. Recipients of graduate assistantships receive a monthly stipend plus all tuition is paid (except activity fees). Graduate assistants serve primarily as research or teaching assistants and are required to work 20 hours per week for a 1/2 time assistantship.
The Rehabilitation Education and Research Program also participates in the Rehabilitation Long-Term Training Program offered by the United States Department of Education - Rehabilitation Services Administration. When available, this scholarship program pays tuition, fees, and a stipend to full-time students in both the masters and doctoral programs.
There is a payback provision attached to acceptance of the RSA Scholarship. RSA Scholars must sign a work-or-repay agreement as a condition of receiving RSA training funds. Briefly, this agreement states that after completing their degree, the recipient will, on a full- or part-time basis, work for a State rehabilitation agency, or a qualifying agency that provides services to individuals with disabilities. The agreement further states that for each academic year of RSA supported study, the recipient will be responsible for paying back two full years of employment or, repay the total amount of support received, plus interest, as if it had been a loan.
